AdhereTB

Giving patients a greater sense of independence

Story

In Georgia, drug-resistant tuberculosis is a real problem for many people. Patients with tuberculosis must take daily medications with severe side effects that require close monitoring in the clinic. And sometimes, the clinic is so far away that these trips turn into journeys. This distance issue created an unnatural competition for some patients - health versus everyday life. In addition, they were met by financial and time barriers on their road to recovery, which soon turned out to be a big problem.

We created a mobile app that not only solved logistical problems but also increased patients' ability to stick with their treatment plans. AdhereTB is a patient-centered tuberculosis app that enables patients to manage their diagnoses more effectively. All they need to do is to record and upload videos of themselves taking the medication, which a doctor will later view.

As for doctors, the app offers a more efficient way to manage their caseloads and frees up time that can be spent on other tasks - all they need to do is remotely ensure that the treatment is going as planned.

AdhereTB is helping to change the way tuberculosis is treated around the world by introducing more significant control over the treatment process and giving patients a greater sense of independence. The effectiveness of AdhereTB is already being felt in countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and Ukraine. And especially with the Covid19 pandemic, when being extra careful might be a lifesaver, AdhereTB turned out to be a much-needed solution.
