Last year horrific wildfires destroyed 10 million square meters of untouched forests in Georgia, including the newly planted trees. This ecological catastrophe had a devastating effect, but unfortunately people started to gradually forget about the disaster as soon as the fire was extinguished and media became less interested in the result of the tragedy.
In order to remind people about the devastation, we decided to invent a new Christmas tradition - when you shop for your Christmas tree, you plant a real fir tree in the forest, where it truly belongs.
During the busy Christmas season we took a few burnt trees from the damaged area and displayed them at the Christmas market next to real Christmas trees. Whilst shoppers were busy buying Christmas trees, we gave them the chance to spend an extra $5 to plant a new tree and help to rebuild the forest.
This heart touching initiative quickly caught public and media attention. Local businesses also joined in using our service as the perfect Christmas gift. Celebrities including the first lady of Georgia publicly supported the campaign and asked Georgian families to join.
As a result, with the help of Treepex 1250 trees were planted in the devastated area and the tradition has got momentum. The story was covered by 7 major TV channels of the country. 980 000 unique people watched our Online video and more than 5000 people visited our website.
